how to keep my blood sugar from going so low that I feel light headed? sometimes after I eat I feel the same?

Yes eating something high in protein is a good idea. The only problem is it takes too long to kick in. I ride the metro for about 45 minutes standing in the morning and I usually get the feeling of dizziness and feeling very light headed. If I don't have sugar right away, I will collapse. Eating nuts will not help me. I should have said that the Skittles are a temporary fix until I can get to a place where I can eat a balanced snack or meal.

Excuse my bluntness, but that is a terrible idea. Hypos should never have
sugar, even to combat a low. A better choice is a low carb protein bar or some
nuts. Sure the Skittles elevate your bs at first but only to have it plummet
again, perhaps lower, especially if it isn't accompanied by some protein. A
snack that is a combination of protein, unrefined carbs and no or very little
added sugar is a much better choice.
