Infliximab (brand name Remicade) is a powerful drug used to treat auto-immune disorders like Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis and rheumatoid arthritis. Remicade is administered by intravenous infusion, typically at a clinic or hospital. It cannot be administered orally, because the digestive system would destroy the drug. Infliximab minimizes the effects of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF alpha), which in turn reduces the symptoms of inflammation. |
